ThunderBrooks Healthy Herbal Treats

My friends at Thunderbrook Equestrian have done it again with more healthy herbal good stuff – this time treats!
thunPriced at just under £4 for a nice 1kg sized bag, that’s not bad value. The bag itself is like the old fashioned brown paper bags you get at greengrocers, love it. Pretty sure they’re bio degradable too.
The treats themselves are molasses free, low in sugar and smell gorgeous. When you open the bag an aroma of mint hits you like a sweet soft peppermint pillow. Mmmmm 😋
Needless to say Paddy likes them! Paddy will eat most things you put infront of him though to be fair 🙈
They fit nicely into my pockets – turning out in the morning I normally take about 3 or 4. And they’re not crumbly so don’t leave a mess in my pocket like other horse treats do!

So would I recommend these? Of course. And those of you watching your horse’s weight of sugar content I’d deffo look into these treats!

Thank you Thunderbrooks for another great product! 👍🏻🏇🏿

ProTector Xtreme Matte Helmet

So this little beauty is from my friends at PROtector Helmets – it is the PROtector Xtreme Matte, of course in black with cerise (pink) lines.

I voiced my opinion (don’t I always?) to the guys at Protector “look, buying an expensive helmet is all well and good, but if I fall off I’ll have to replace it! I can’t afford that!” Especially after witnessing my friend Chantel cracking her skull cap helmet into two perfect halves falling only a few years ago!! But Protector test their helmets to the highest safety standard – SNELL E2001, which basically means you can run this hat over with a car, then put it back on and ride in it! (Though of course I wouldn’t recommend you try it – if you do, you obviously have far too much time on your hands! 😂)
Any damage that occurs in your helmet, whether it be cosmetic or from a fall, take it back and the team can fix it. Now you can’t say that about other helmet manufacturers now can you?
They’re approved by Pony Club, BD, BSJA, BHS and of course the skull cap model is BE approved too.

Comfort wise; I got a size smaller than I usually take in my Gatehouse HS1 as it’s a different sort of shape, and it proves very comfortable! I’ve showjumped in it, schooled and hacked in it, finding it both comfortable and not too hot & sticky!
On Sunday I had it on all day at a local show and I must admit my ‘hat hair’ was not as bad as it normally is!

Want to try one for yourself? You can order online from their website http://www.parkgateequestrian.co.uk/page1.htm
Or visit their Facebook page (tagged at the top) and see which big show they’ll be attending next; at least then you can try on their different designs and see what suits you best! (The ultimate with diamontes is next on my list!) 😍🏇🏿
I may make a video in a few days so let me know what you’d like to see! 👍🏻

Stübben Soft Touch Rollerball spurs

My Stübben collection is forever growing!
Although I have a pair of Prince of Wales spurs that I’m so in love with, I felt it was time to try something new and invest in a Steeltec pair.
The Steeltec range is also where my Maxi Irons are from 😍proper quality metal crafted to perfection 👌🏻
They have such a wide range of spurs but I went for the soft touch, as in side saddle in particular one must be very particular with her aids.
They didn’t disappoint and are now a key tool in my schooling – I’ll be interested to see how Paddy responds showjumping in them too.
I purchased these and the spur straps from Ayr Equestrian 😁a great shop; whenever they have a stand at Olympia or Hickstead I never leave empty handed!

Bespoke cushion

Last year I was lucky enough to have a bespoke cushion made for me to honour my late horse ‘Captain Splosh’; using a photo from our last ever competition. This cushion was made by British Company ‘Winning Memories’ who make amazing rosette cushions – both horse and not horse related.
Their prices start from £55 and the quality is amazing, you only have to look at the detail in my picture to see. So it really is a special sort of present you just can’t buy anywhere else.
I can’t really score this out of 5, as there’s nothing else to compare it to, it really is unique. I’d love a rosette cushion made out of all my championship rosettes…it’s just a matter of picking the ones I like the most! Difficult choice!

Stinky Stuff Shampoo

So we’ve been testing Stinky Stuff on gorgeous Poppy for a while now and now was the ultimate test…. the post haircut bath!
So the Popster is quite often itchy after a bath, what with all that loose hair and exposed skin, so we took the opportunity to strike while the iron was hot (and the weather for that matter) and once again we used the Stinky stuff carrier oil with the shampoo base.
The next day was a similar story to her previous ‘morning after the bath night before’ – no itchy marks and her skin wasn’t flakey! Result!
Poppy’s owner and I are both in agreement that this product is the bees knees for itchy horses – mixing the two products together isn’t too much faff and its easy to use. Proof is in the pudding, how fabulous does Poppy look? 😀

Thank you Stinky Stuff, you’ve totally changed Poppy’s summer, she’ll be wowing the judges with her shiny non itchy coat whilst out competing!

Bedmax Shavings

Why Bedmax?
Why not!

These shavings are by far the very best I’ve ever used – the fact that they have the “Royal stamp” speaks for itself.
However if you’re not a fan of big flakes, then this isn’t the bedding for you.
If you’re a fan of an easy bed to muck out of a morning, dust free and affordable to buy then these are deffo the shavings for you.
bedmax
I personally find the bigger flakes more absorbent than Mega Spread, and converted over from them for that very reason. Plus they’re more readily available compared to Mega Spread. Bedmax is used and endorsed by top event riders such as William Fox Pitt and Ben Hobday – and it’s easy to see why these guys use it; I can imagine on a large scale yard it would be so so labour saving being on this stuff.

Horslyx

So Horslyx are a British based company, pretty well known in the horsey world for their non traditional form of balancers – the lick entitled “The Feed in a Tub”. They do these in a variety of flavours such as Garlic, Respiratory and the one I am reviewing today, Original.
Initially the packaging is good – the box easy to open and the smell hits you straight away, it smells pretty good.

What I liked: I’ve had it in my stable for about 3 weeks now and its lasting well. Pimms is well covered anyway so Vitamin-wise I’m not seeing any vast improvements, but then he’s not losing condition either. Its keeping him busy whilst being stuck in every other day, and as the owner of horse with stable vices having a product that keeps my horse busy is important, so this ticks that box.

What I didn’t like: The mess, oh god the mess! Pimms’ pink nose and white chin is caked in the stuff. Its not the easiest to get off and he has managed to wipe it over our walls too. I’ve used about 2 or 3 baby wipes to get if off, and in the past I’ve even resorted to warm soapy water, still finding brown sticky patches on his chin. So that’s not good!

Stockists: Found these available at every tackshop in my local area and online too.

Price: Pretty fair, I paid £10.75 at Ingatestone for a 5kg, so for just over a tenner and its lasted this long I think its good value for money.

Score: 4 out of 5 – Its Ally Approved! Definitely something you can leave in your horse’s stable/ field and know they’ll be kept busy – plus it lasts so you won’t have to keep going out and replacing it.Just wish it wasn’t so messy as I’m getting through a fair few wipes!

Thank you to Horslyx and Ingatestone Saddlery Centre.
